Turning deep technical work into content decision-makers trust

As Content Marketing Manager and internal journalist at Appsilon, an R/Shiny software company in life sciences, I built the content engine that turned deep data science and engineering into clear, credible stories, and grew pipeline while doing it.

Role
Content Marketing Manager & Internal Journalist

2023 to 2025
Focus
Technical content, Content strategy, Webinars & interviews, Community

Appsilon builds R and Shiny applications and data science tools for pharma and life sciences. The work was deep and technical, often drafted by engineers and data scientists. It needed to reach non-technical decision-makers without losing any of its accuracy, and it needed to bring in leads.

1 / 5
The starting point

Dense drafts, expert readers, busy decision-makers

Engineers and data scientists produced rich, accurate drafts. They were also dense. Decision-makers in life sciences needed the same substance in a form they could read quickly and trust.

Understand the work

I learned the technology, not just the message

I sat with engineers, read the docs, and asked questions until I understood the dashboards and the science behind them. Grounded in the work, the content stayed accurate.

Translate

From programmer draft to clear, credible article

I turned complex technical drafts into articles, case studies, and ebooks that resonated with experts and newcomers alike. One piece, “Beyond SAS: How R is Revolutionizing Pharma”, was picked up and shared by industry leaders, and case studies like Boston Medical Center’s machine-learning work made the value obvious to decision-makers.

Build the engine

A content system, not one-off posts

More than 50 assets across blogs, ebooks, data-rich case studies, and newsletters, produced with engineers, delivery teams, and commercial stakeholders. I documented repeatable editorial processes that cut production time by 30%, coached a team of five-plus writers, and took over Shiny Weekly, the newsletter.

Amplify

Webinars, interviews, and community

I hosted and moderated webinars and video interviews, including 9 sessions at ShinyConf 2024 (1,370 registrations), helped run the GxP Summit that drew around 130 pharma prospects, and joined the Pharmaverse blog team alongside contributors from GSK and Roche.

“She has a rare ability to take a complex technical draft written by a programmer and translate it into a clear, engaging article that resonates with a non-technical audience.”
